Our Fields, Our Future

This past week I attended the “Our Fields, Our Future” agricultural symposium in Asphodel-Norwood, Ontario. The symposium was hosted by Kawartha Choice and the Greater Peterborough Economic Development Corporation, and featured speakers fromĀ  Trent University, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Farming and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), as well as farmers from Traynor Beef, Glen Isle Farms, among others. Attendees were mainly farmers from around Peterborough county, but also included people from Carbon Control Systems, the Community Futures Development Corporation, Fleming College, the Peterborough Innovation Cluster, the Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association, and the local Liberal candidate.

I had a great time, had a delicious lunch (exclusively from county farms and food producers) and learned more about the innovative bio-based research being done at Trent – specifically related to creating new biomaterials, increasing crop yields and anaerobic digestion (biogas).

More importantly, I built some more important relationships that will help ReGenerate achieve its goals in Peterborough County.
