Today, the Ontario government announced the official launch of the Aboriginal Energy Partnership Program – which was created as part of the Green Energy Act last year. The program will help Aboriginal communities fund community energy plans, and pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for potential projects. The program compliments other initiatives that support Aboriginal renewable energy projects like a $250 million loan guarantee program and price adders for feed-in tariff contracts awarded to Aboriginal owned projects. Here is the official press release
I believe this also means that the province will very shortly launch the Community Energy Partnership Program to fund the same costs for communities and municipalities… Both programs are going to go a very long way in furthering the development of community owned renewable energy projects across Ontario, and I’m sure they will receive many applications for funding.
